Show Us Your Bullet!

We want to see your recovered bullets!

Hornady 500-grain .458 InterBond round-nose bullet recovered from gelatin. Velocity 1,958 fps. Whether in the field stalking a trophy of  a lifetime or in a dark alley fighting for your life, bullet performance is important to Guns & Ammo readers. Most shooters at one time or another manage to recover an expanded bullet from game, or do their own informal expansion and penetration tests in a medium such as wet newsprint.  It's these recovered bullets we want to see. Our editors have created this on-going interactive article where you can show us your bullet and share your knowledge and experience.

If you have a good photo of an expanded bullet and a short story to go with it, let us know! Simply email your 1 MB or smaller expanded bullet photo with the subject line "Show Us Your Bullet" to scott.mayer@imoutdoors.com along with approximately 200 words describing:

1) Bullet
2) Load
3) What you shot
4) From how far
5) What happened
6) Any other interesting aspects that help tell the story.

We'll add your bullet and story as they come in, and eventually Guns & Ammo online readers will have one of the most comprehensive sources of real-word bullet performance anywhere.

Tips on photographing bullets.

Use the Macro feature if your camera has it. If not, zoom the camera to its max then step back from the bullet until it's in focus.

Fill the frame.

The photo boxes on Guns & Ammo online are horizontal, so shoot horizontal.

Good, flat light is best. Try to photograph your bullet outside on an overcast day or in the shade. If you use a flash, bounce it off the ceiling and down onto the bullet.

Plain backgrounds will help your bullet "pop." "Busy" backgrounds are distracting.
